Expressions of Interest

If you are interested in joining the Precision Development team, but don’t see a job being advertised that is closely aligned with your career ambitions, please send us an “expression of interest” (EOI) submission pitched to one of the generic job descriptions linked below.

Submissions will be assessed on a rolling basis. If we see a potential match, and when a position becomes available, candidates who meet the selection criteria will be contacted.

Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to specific EOI inquiries or field EOI-related correspondence. For more information, please see the FAQs below.

As we expand, we have found that we are regularly hiring for particular positions. To improve the efficiency of the hiring process, we are soliciting “expressions of interest” for positions we are likely to be hiring for, even if we’re not actively running a full recruitment round at this time. We will assess submissions on a rolling basis. If we see a potential match, and when a position becomes available, we will get back to you. Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to specific expressions of interest (EOI) inquiries.

It may look something like this:

  1. Submit expression of interest
  2. An initial desktop screen, on a rolling basis
  3. If we see a potential match, and when a position becomes available, we will invite you to an initial screening call and/or a relevant work test
  4. A remote interview(s)
  5. Reference checks
  6. The employment offer

PxD’s work is user-centered, impact-driven, and evidence-led. We leverage rigorous research on the impact of digital information interventions in multiple contexts to optimize our impact and services. In agriculture, this research demonstrates that digital extension can increase the adoption of appropriate farm management practices, improve yields by, on average, four percent, and improve farmer incomes. These results suggest that digital extension is extremely cost-effective, with point estimates suggesting a benefit-cost ratio between 6:1 and 10:1 – very high relative to other development interventions. At scale, these improvements generate millions of dollars of extra income that can bolster the livelihoods and resilience of food-insecure households.

Platforms built and supported by PxD serve users in ten countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America (Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Colombia). We are pleased to support the work of government partners in India (Odisha, West Bengal, and the Coffee Board of India), Pakistan (Punjab), Ethiopia (the Agricultural Transformation Agency), Kenya, and Zambia to design, build, evaluate, and improve mobile phone-based advisory systems. We also support efforts to design and evaluate services in partnership with agribusinesses and NGOs such as One Acre Fund and Root Capital. In 2020 we commenced a partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to deliver productivity-supporting advisory and mitigate the effects of COVID-19 for 1.9 million smallholder farmers in Kenya, Nigeria, and Pakistan.

Our prototype digital education tool, ElimuLeo, has reached over 10,000 Kenyan students via simple mobile phones, and 550,000 math exercises have been completed on the platform. This innovative, two-way SMS tool, inspired by Teaching at the Right Level (TARL), allows students to solve math exercises as the tool dynamically adapts the difficulty of problems to the performance of the individual student. Through a partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Education, we aim to expand this approach to engage with teachers, using digital technology to boost the effectiveness of in-class teaching and to ease the burden on teachers and education systems.

At PxD, our strength as an organisation is our team. All staff are strongly encouraged to invest in their professional development. PxD provides an annual allowance to support professional development activities.

Professional development activities can range from formal educational activities such as instructor-led training courses, workshops or seminars, to more informal approaches such as work-based learning or mentoring. Professional development can also include self-directed study such as e-learning courses and structured reading.

Depending on your role and where in the world you work, you can expect to be offered benefits such as:

  • Paid vacation (and office closure)
  • Flexible working
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives
  • Pension contribution
  • Professional development allowance

We prefer applicants, particularly for research and programmatic positions, who are able to work in a country of operation (e.g. in India, or Kenya), but we have staff who work outside these locations. While we have a strong remote culture, we think that there are benefits to be co-located with colleagues.

We may be able to provide visa sponsorship if you want to work in a country of operation but don’t have the right to do so.

We’ll hold your details for up to six months. If something comes up that’s a good match, we’ll let you know. You always have the right to know what information we’re holding about you, and why.

We will use any personal data you provide for recruitment purposes only.

We are an international organization powered by a diverse and dispersed team. We are committed to strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion within our organization, not only because we believe that the unique perspectives, experiences and voices of our colleagues should be affirmed and celebrated but because we believe this makes us more effective in the work we do. We believe that the diversity of our employees, their backgrounds and experiences make us more sensitive and responsive to the needs, challenges and aspirations of our users.

We believe emphatically in the importance of questioning the status quo, challenging inequity and affirming the value of inclusion.

While we are proud of PxD’s work so far, we recognize that there is so much more to be done. We hope to learn from each other, from other organizations and experts, and from the communities we serve, and to share our learnings as this work evolves in this working document.

We are looking for people who are passionate about leveraging technology, research and product development to generate positive and sustainable impact for the most disadvantaged people.  We appreciate and respect different perspectives and ideas. We strongly encourage applications from candidates of any and every background.
