We are delighted to share a milestone that means a great deal to all of us at Precision Development:  PxD-supported services have now reached more than 60 million farmers!

When we started PxD, we believed that enough was already known to meaningfully improve smallholder farmers’ livelihoods. The gap was getting these information and tools to farmers in forms they could actually use, at the moment they needed them.

Ten years later, we’ve made significant progress to address that gap. Across India, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Nigeria, 60 million farmers now have access to evidence-based information and tools through government systems they already trust. We’re well on our way to meeting our goals of serving over 100 million farmers by 2030! 

Over the years, one thing has become clear: the stakes are highest when a climate shock hits. When a flood is forecast, when rainfall is erratic, when a pest outbreak is spreading — these are the moments when the right information, arriving in time, can mean the difference between a lost harvest and a saved one. Continuous testing, farmer feedback, and experimentation are how we ensure that information keeps getting more timely, more trusted, more actionable.

It’s one reason we’ve been investing heavily in AI-powered weather forecasts. And in the coming months, we’ll be sharing a toolkit on what it takes to go from frontier AI weather science to millions of farmers at scale — from message design to government dissemination systems. Watch this space.
