Stephen Obunga is PxD’s Finance and Accounting Manager. He holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance, and is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). He has significant experience in compliance reviews, budgeting, auditing, donor reporting, grants and financial management. He previously worked for African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), DAI Global LLC, International Potato Center (CIP) and ActionAid International.

Dr. Adam Abramson is a Business Development Consultant at PxD, focusing on identifying new opportunities, partnerships and programs, with an emphasis on Africa. He holds an MSc and PhD from Ben Gurion University in Environmental and Development Economics, and an AB from Harvard in Environmental Science & Public Policy. He has over ten years of experience researching and innovating for smallholder farmers in Eastern and Southern Africa. He also runs a startup, Farmster, in Kenya connecting farmers to local buyers and other services.

Dina Rodrigues is PxD’s Global Research Support Associate. She holds a MSc. in Economics with a specialization in Development and Trade from the NOVA School of Business and Economics and a BSc. in Economics from Católica-Lisbon SBE, in Portugal. Dina has fieldwork experience in Portugal and Mozambique, having coordinated RCTs in the areas of migration, livelihoods, and labor markets for the Novafrica Research Centre and the International Growth Centre. She has also consulted for the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the United Nations Office of the Resident Coordinator in Mozambique.

Khushbakht Fatima Jamal is a Global Research and Operations Manager at PxD. She is a Fulbright scholar and holds an MPA from Columbia School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and a BSc in Economics from Lahore University of Management Sciences (Pakistan). She has experience in impact evaluation, project management and data analysis and most recently she led the implementation of an RCT for an education project for out of school adolescent girls at the Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan. Earlier, Khushbakht worked at Pakistan’s central bank where she designed and launched refinance schemes and capacity building programmes to enhance agricultural credit disbursements. She has also worked at the UN Secretariat and The Resource Group (TRG) in programme evaluation and product development roles, respectively.

Pragyan Pandey is a Software Engineer at PxD. She holds a B.Tech degree in Material Sciences and Metallurgical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Bhopal. Prior to joining PxD, she worked with the Steel Authority of India. She is a self-taught developer and has earned several certifications via Coursera and other online platforms. Her primary skills lie in Python, SQL and Data Science.

Alexander Ramirez is a Software Engineer at PxD. He holds a B.S. in Computer and Information Science from East-West University, Chicago. Prior to joining PxD he worked as a software engineer in the financial sector and as a CyberSecurity engineer at various military installations. He is currently also a CyberSecurity instructor at the University of Minnesota. His interests include functional programming, cybersecurity, and automated program synthesis.

Prior to joining the PhD programme, he worked as a software engineer at National Instruments, Bangalore. His areas of interest are functional programming languages, program synthesis, and using chatbot based systems for teaching.

Sam van Herwaarden is PxD’s technology lead in Nairobi, Kenya. Prior to joining PxD, he worked as an analyst in Dutch healthcare at Intelligence2Integrity, and has additional experience in machine learning and remote sensing.

Jagori Chatterjee is a Researcher at PxD. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Washington-Seattle. Previously, she completed her M.Sc. in Economic Policy at the University College London and B.Sc. in Economics Honors at Presidency College, Kolkata. Her research experience and interests primarily lie in gender and family economics in South Asia. More recently, she was at Furman University and Rhodes College teaching and mentoring student research in behavioral economics, labor economics, and quantitative methods.

Julia is PxD’s Global Senior Research Associate. She holds a MA in International Development Policy from Georgetown University and a BA in International Affairs from American University. Julia previously lived in Migori County, Kenya working on research about Community Health Workers and maternal child health outcomes for Lwala Community Alliance. Julia has conducted experimental and quasi-experimental research on COVID-19 knowledge for smallholder farmers in Nigeria and Kenya and primary school reforms in Tanzania.

Samantha (Sam) Carter is a Global Research and Operations Manager at PxD. She holds a B.A. in Economics and International Studies, and an M.A. in International Economics and International Relations, from Johns Hopkins University. Sam’s career has focused on the intersection of rigorous research with context-specific needs and constraints, including roles at MIT’s Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) and the World Bank’s Development Research Group. Most recently, Sam worked as a Research Advisor at Founders Pledge, where she launched a fund focused on supporting high-impact global development organizations and provided strategic philanthropy advice to entrepreneurs.

Gautam Bastian is PxD’s Research and Program Development Manager. He holds a Master of Public Administration specializing in Advanced Policy and Economic Analysis from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and a BA in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He has designed and implemented impact evaluations in agriculture, mobile finance, education, and business training in India, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Nigeria. Before joining PxD, he was an Economist at the World Bank’s Africa Gender Innovation Lab and a Research Associate at Harvard Business School.

Caitlin McKee is PxD’s Assistant Director, Research. She holds a Master of Public Administration with a certificate in International Development from the University of Washington. She has experience in agricultural research, impact evaluation, and policy analysis and most recently worked for the Center for Global Development in London. Caitlin has implemented randomized control trials in East Africa, notably for cassava farmers in Tanzania and sugarcane growers in Uganda. She has also conducted data analysis on Tanzanian smallholder farmers with projects for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala working on women’s empowerment issues.

Stefania is PxD’s Global Senior Research Associate. She holds a MSc in Public Policy and Development from the Toulouse School of Economics, France, and a BSc in Statistics and Information Management from the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy. Prior to joining PxD, she designed and managed an impact evaluation survey of Conservation Agriculture for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Timor-Leste. Stefania is a former Overseas Development Institute (ODI) fellow who has worked for two years in the Timor-Leste national statistical office.

Vincent Vanderputten is a Data Scientist at PxD. He holds a BSc in electrical engineering, a MSc in Photonics from Ghent University, and a Masters in Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) from the Harvard Kennedy School. Vincent has worked in academia, government, and nonprofits, and spent the past couple of years using statistics and data science to answer questions and address issues in economic development, from risk modeling to remote sensing.
